# Arnhem Bridge Operation # Arnhem Rail Bridge Arnhem Bridge is the prize! If you take this bridge and hold it, Allied armoured columns could very well be pouring into Germany's industrial heartland by Christmas. You must move quickly to secure the bridge by the end of the first day. Any delay will allow the Germans to organize and block your passage. Speed is imperative and there is no path of retreat. Once at the bridge, your position will be reinforced by elements of 1st Airborne. If they encounter opposition in their relief attempt, you will be on your own. Almost as important as the Arnhem Highway Bridge, the Arnhem Rail Bridge is vital to your success. Allowing the Germans to destroy this bridge eliminates any contingency plan in case the Arnhem Highway Bridge is lost. The rail bridge is the escape route for the Oosterbeek operation. If you don't secure it immediately they will have no place they can fall back. If you are forced to abandon this area, this operation will be canceled and your troops will be sent to help defend Oosterbeek. # Arnhem Suburbs Push hard to take the objectives and make your way down the road to Arnhem. Do not let your men get bogged down in street fighting when the road to Arnhem is still open. If you are forced off this map, this operation will be canceled and your troops will be sent to help defend Oosterbeek. # Arnhem Tree Road Be careful not to let fire from across the river slow you down. Secure your objectives and press on to Arnhem. The road to Arnhem should still be clear, so speed is paramount. # Arnhem West Approach This is where you have the highest risk of being delayed on your thrust to Arnhem. Be bold and push hard to clear the area and advance to the bridge. Any delays allow the Germans to gain strength. # Arnhem Bridge The brass ring! The Arnhem Highway Bridge spans the Lower Rhine River and is the gateway to the German industrial Ruhr Valley. Completed by the Dutch in 1934, destroyed by the Dutch in 1940, captured by the Germans in 1940, and rebuilt by the Germans in 1944, liberating the Arnhem Highway Bridge is your responsibility. Secure the approaches to the bridge and then the bridge itself. Partisans report the presence of SS Panzer units in the area, but RAF reconnaissance says no. Suffer as few casualties as possible. You must hold out until your 1st Airborne lads reinforce you or XXX Corps relieves you. German forces have closed in behind you. If you are forced off this map, your troops will be dead or captured. There is no path of retreat.
