dream of defeating the Persians and restoring Greek self-rule
in Asia Minor; but his incredible military successes against 
Darius, king of the Persians, spurred him to greater and more 
feats of conquest. By the time of his early death, thirteen years
after his ascension to the Macedonian throne, Alexander had
either defeated or allied with the independent Greeks, the Thracians,
the Persians, the Phoenecians, the Egyptians, the Bactrian tribes, and 
the Indians. He was master of the known civilized world. You are given
