Capitalism Plus for DOS and Windows 95 Copyright (c) 1997 by Interactive Magic, Inc. All Rights Reserved. http://www.imagicgames.com ------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION AND STARTUP: To install the DOS version, run the INSTALL.EXE on the Capitalism Plus CD and follow the instructions. Then, from DOS, type CAP and return to run the game or, from Windows 95, double-click the Capmain.exe icon. To install the Windows 95 version, double-click Setup.exe on the Capitalism Plus CD and follow the instructions. Then double-click the CapWin.exe icon to start the game. The first time you run Capitalism Plus on either platform, the game will immediately take you to the instructional game. This is a series of short hands-on lessons. We recommend that you go through the instructional game before actually playing your first real game. After your first time running the game, you will have to select the Instructional Game button from the main menu screen in order to go through the tutorial. ------------------------------------------------------------------- ONLINE MANUALS: To view the online manuals you need Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not have this software on your computer, you can install it by running AR32E30.EXE in the Manual directory on the Capitalism Plus CD and following the instructions. You must be in Windows to use the Acrobat Reader. The online manuals are the same as the printed versions. ------------------------------------------------------------------- MULTIPLAYER GAMES: When playing a multiplayer e-mail game, you must make certain that each saved game attached to an e-mail was saved with a unique name. If a saved game is attached to an e-mail that already has an attachment with the same name, some e-mail programs will rename the new attachment. This renders the saved game unplayable! Also, some e-mail programs and services will rename attachments. If you come across this problem, make certain that the person receiving your saved game knows the original name of the attached file and can rename the attachment to its original name. Also, in multiplayer games, the stock market is disabled. You will not be able to invest in any other companies nor can other players (human or computer) invest in any other companies. The corporation set screen allows each player to decide their starting capital versus ownership in their corporation. This means that each player in a multiplayer game can choose to start with a different amount of capital. This can be used to handicap more experienced players or to give novices an advantage. Players should decide amoung themselves what starting values to use. -------------------------------------------------------------------- VIDEO DRIVERS: The game runs in 256-color mode. Some video drivers cannot auto- matically switch from other modes to 256-color mode. If you experience problems with the graphics, try manually setting your computer to the 256-color mode in the Display Control Panel. Also, make sure that you have the latest video drivers for your video hardware. The drivers can usually be obtained from the video hardware manufacturer and often right over the internet. -------------------------------------------------------------------- CD AUDIO: The Win95 version of Capitalism Plus provides CD quality audio as a selection in the Options menu and in the configuration dialog in the instructional game. This feature is not available in the DOS version due to the driver configuration problems associated with CD audio under DOS. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Raw Materials In Department Stores The game allows you to link purchasing units in department stores to suppliers of raw materials - such as gold and oil - but you can not sell these items in a department store. The purchasing unit will purchase a quantity of the linked raw material but it will never be transferred to the sales unit. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Task Switching When switching to another running task - as with the Alt-Tab and other key combinations - the game is suspended until you bring it back to the front again. Once the game is returned to the front you may see a white or partially redrawn screen. Moving the mouse around will restore the screen image. -------------------------------------------------------------------- CUSTOMER SERVICE If you have questions or need additional assistance with this or any other Interactive Magic product, feel free to call our Customer Service Department at (919) 461-0948, between 9AM - 9PM Eastern.
